TAR UMT Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) Fees for Nepalis
TAR UMT's Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) costs RM 74,600 total for international students over 3 years. Full fee table, living costs and entry rules.
The fee, stated plainly
The Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management & Technology (TAR UMT) costs RM 74,600 total for international students, according to the official institution page (tarumt.edu.my). The programme runs 3 years, with intakes in June and November, and leads to a TAR UMT degree.
Read that figure carefully: it is the total for the whole programme, not a per-year figure. Malaysian institutions publish both styles and Nepali families regularly confuse them — a family that assumes RM 74,600 is an annual number will over-budget by a large margin, and a family that assumes a per-year number is a total will under-budget. TAR UMT publishes this one as a total.
What the total does not include: living costs, EMGS and medical charges, accommodation, flights, or your visa-stage expenses in Kathmandu. Those sit on top, and they are listed separately below so you can add them up yourself with today's exchange rate.
TAR UMT fees by programme
If Entrepreneurship is on your shortlist, you are probably comparing it against the other TAR UMT options. Here is what the official institution pages publish.
| Programme | Level | Published fee | Duration | Intakes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) | Bachelor | RM 74,600 total (intl) | 3 yr | Jun · Nov |
| Bachelor of Arts in English Studies (Hons) | Bachelor | RM 73,000 total (intl) | 3 yr | Jun · Nov |
| Bachelor of Accounting (Hons) | Bachelor | RM 88,000 total (intl) | 3.5–4 yr | Jan · Jun · Nov |
| Bachelor of IT (Hons) in Internet Technology | Bachelor | RM 60,400 total (intl) | 3 yr | Jun · Nov (KL) · Jun (Penang) |
| Foundation in Business | Foundation | RM 26,000 total (intl) | 1 yr | Jan · May · Sep (KL) · May · Sep (Penang) |
| Foundation in Arts | Foundation | RM 26,000 total (intl) | 1 yr | Jan · May · Sep |
| Foundation in Computing | Foundation | RM 26,600 total (intl) | 1 yr | Jan · May · Sep (KL) · May (Penang) |
| Diploma in Culinary Arts | Diploma | RM 20,100 total (Malaysian rate; intl not published) | 2.4 yr | Jun · Nov |
| Diploma in Event Management (Perak) | Diploma | RM 19,300 total (Malaysian rate; intl not published) | 2 yr | Jun · Nov |
The catch on the diploma fees
The two diploma figures above are the Malaysian rate. The international rate is not published. If a counsellor quotes you RM 20,100 for Culinary Arts as a Nepali applicant, that quote is wrong until TAR UMT confirms an international figure in writing on your offer letter. Get the number on the offer, not in a WhatsApp message.
Do you need the Foundation year?
TAR UMT's Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) sits at MQF 6 on the Malaysian qualification ladder. Direct entry into a Bachelor's (Hons) is possible from Class 12 / A-Level / IB where you meet the cutoff, or via a Foundation or Diploma route. A Diploma (MQF 4–5) gives credit-exempt entry into Bachelor Year 2 at many institutions. If you add Foundation in Business first, that is a separate published total of RM 26,000 on top — do not treat the two as one combined price, and ask TAR UMT in writing what the Bachelor fee becomes if you enter with advanced standing.
Living costs in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur
TAR UMT's main campus is in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, with five branch campuses. Here is the published cost picture for Setapak against other Malaysian study cities, so you can see whether KL is the right budget fit.
| Location | Shared room / month | Studio / month | Total monthly budget | Transport |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Setapak KL (TAR UMT) | RM 350–800 | RM 1,200–2,000 | RM 1,500–2,800 | Good LRT access + Grab |
| Kuala Lumpur (APU / UCSI) | RM 350–800 | RM 1,200–2,000 | RM 1,800–3,000 | Good LRT/MRT rail + Grab |
| Subang Jaya / Sunway City | RM 180–300 | RM 300–500 | RM 1,700–2,600 | BRT Sunway Line into Klang Valley |
| Nilai (INTI IU / MILA) | RM 120–220 | RM 180–350 | RM 1,300–2,000 | Limited rail — campus transport / Grab |
| Penang (INTI / UOW KDU) | RM 160–280 | RM 250–450 | RM 1,500–2,300 | Bus + Grab |
TAR UMT's own on-campus residence rate is not published in our data — verify it on the institution's accommodation page before you sign anything. The most reliably sourced monthly quote in Malaysia is APU's: residence RM 1,120–1,390/mo and a total student budget of RM 1,500–3,000/mo (food RM 600–1,200, transport RM 100–300, utilities RM 50–150). Malaysia overall sits at roughly RM 1,500–2,500/mo, far below Sydney, London or Toronto. Other city figures are market ranges, not institutional quotes.
Funds, EMGS and documents
Malaysian Immigration and EMGS publish no single statutory minimum funds figure. Anyone who tells you there is a fixed number is guessing. What exists is a planning estimate built from published Year-1 EMGS and medical costs plus a living-cost baseline:
| Planning component | Figure |
|---|---|
| Bachelor (private university) tuition line used in the estimate | RM 28,000 |
| Living-cost baseline | RM 24,000 |
| EMGS Year 1 | RM 2,000 |
| Medical | RM 275 |
Note the mismatch: the RM 28,000 line is a generic private-university tuition placeholder, not TAR UMT's RM 74,600 programme total. Use TAR UMT's actual published figure when you build your own budget, and confirm the exact amount requested with both the institution and EMGS at application time. The multipliers used for dependants in that planning model are: student alone ×1, student + spouse ×1.5, + spouse + 1 child ×1.8, + spouse + 2 children ×2.1.
Document checklist
| Document | What is actually checked |
|---|---|
| Offer letter | Conditional or unconditional, from an EMGS-approved institution |
| Passport | Valid at least 12–18 months beyond the intended study period |
| Transcripts & certificates | Attested copies of the qualification used for admission |
| English proof | IELTS/TOEFL/PTE, or an institution English-medium/waiver letter |
| Financial proof | Bank statements, fixed deposits, or a sponsor/scholarship letter covering tuition + living for at least one year |
| eVAL | Issued after EMGS approval; needed before the visa application |
| Single Entry Visa (SEV) | Nepali nationals apply via the official eVISA portal using the eVAL, before travelling |
| Medical | Pre-departure medical plus a mandatory post-arrival medical within 7 days of landing |
| Insurance | Health cover for the study period, usually bundled into the EMGS quote |
| Photos | Per EMGS/Immigration specification — confirm current requirements |
Budget 3–4 months end-to-end for Student Pass approval via EMGS once you hold an offer letter. Nepali, Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi applications tend to get more thorough document and financial verification, so start the day you accept.
English requirements
TAR UMT-specific English thresholds are not published in our data. The safe planning targets for admission and visa across Malaysian institutions are: Foundation/Diploma IELTS 5.5; Bachelor IELTS 6.0, with some programmes at 6.5. If you fall below, most institutions run an in-house intensive English programme of roughly 10 weeks per level that satisfies entry in lieu of IELTS and is EMGS-recognised.
Confirm TAR UMT's exact requirement for the Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) directly with the institution. Do not assume an English-medium school certificate is enough — waiver policy is decided institution by institution.
Before you commit
TAR UMT is one of Malaysia's largest private institutions; recent student-count figures range from 32,000 to 38,000+ depending on source and date, so treat it as 32k+ and re-verify at your intake. It is not in the QS World rankings (verify at time of applying). The degree is a TAR UMT Malaysian award, MQA-accredited — not a UK or Australian branch-campus testamur. That matters if your family's plan depends on a foreign brand name.
Malaysia does not offer a broad open post-study work visa of the kind Australia, New Zealand or Canada have. Staying on means an employer sponsors an Employment Pass after a job offer, and from 1 June 2026 the EP salary floors make that harder for fresh graduates. During your course, part-time work is permitted up to 20 hours per week during scheduled breaks and holidays only — not during term — subject to Student Pass conditions and university approval. Plan the degree as a cost-effective qualification, not as a migration route.

Common questions
Is RM 74,600 the yearly fee or the total for the Bachelor in Entrepreneurship?
It is the total for international students for the whole programme, which runs 3 years. It is not a per-year charge. Living costs, EMGS charges, the medical fee and accommodation are all separate and sit on top of it.
Are there scholarships for Nepali students on this programme?
No scholarship amounts for this programme appear in the official data we hold, so we will not quote one. Ask TAR UMT's international office in writing whether any award applies to Nepali applicants at your intake, and get the reduction stated on your offer letter before you pay a deposit. Treat any figure an agent quotes verbally as unconfirmed.
When are the intakes and how early should we apply?
The Bachelor in Entrepreneurship (Hons) has June and November intakes. Because EMGS Student Pass approval takes 3–4 months end-to-end after you hold an offer letter, working backwards from those intake months is the only sensible way to plan. Late applicants from Nepal are the ones who miss intakes, usually on financial document verification.
Is a TAR UMT degree recognised back in Nepal and by employers?
TAR UMT is a private Malaysian university awarding its own MQA-accredited degree, recognised locally and by employers familiar with the brand. It is not a branch campus, so it does not carry a UK or Australian parent-university testamur. For any Malaysian institution, confirm MQA accreditation status through the MQR register before you commit money.
