APU BSc (Hons) Information Technology (specialisms) Fees

APU's BSc (Hons) Information Technology (specialisms) costs RM 108,500 total over 3 years. Fees, living costs, English and EMGS steps for Nepali students.

The fee, stated plainly

The BSc (Hons) Information Technology (specialisms) at Asia Pacific University (APU) is published at RM 108,500 total for the programme, which runs 3 years, with intakes in Jul Β· Sep Β· Nov. The award is an APU degree with a UK dual award option (apu.edu.my).

Two things families get wrong here, so read them before you budget anything.

First, RM 108,500 is a total figure for the whole degree, not a per-year figure. Do not multiply it by three. Ask APU's admissions office for the year-by-year instalment schedule, because that is the number your bank statement and your father's cash-flow planning actually have to match β€” you pay in stages, not in one lump.

Second, tuition is not the cost of studying. Accommodation, food, transport, EMGS processing and medical screening sit on top. They are listed separately further down this page, and I have deliberately not added them together for you β€” quote each one to your sponsor as its own line so nobody is surprised later.

Note on the route you take

A +2 / Class 12 student who does not meet direct bachelor entry may be routed through the Foundation in Computing & Technology first. That is a separate programme with its own published fee of RM 28,400 total (intl) for 1 year, paid in addition to the degree fee. Counsellors who quote only RM 108,500 to a foundation-route student are setting up an argument with the family a year later. Confirm in writing which route your offer letter puts you on.

The Diploma in ICT is the other common route. On the Malaysian qualifications ladder, a Diploma sits at MQF 4–5 and can give credit-exempt entry into Bachelor Year 2 at many institutions β€” ask APU specifically whether your diploma shortens the IT degree, and get it in the offer letter, not on the phone.

Living costs in Bukit Jalil

APU sits at Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. APU's own published accommodation and budget figures are the most reliable numbers in the Malaysian market; other cities in the table are market ranges you must confirm on each institution's accommodation page.

Location On-campus residence Shared room Studio Total monthly budget Transport
Kuala Lumpur (APU / UCSI) APU residence RM 1,120–1,390 RM 350–800 RM 1,200–2,000 RM 1,800–3,000 Good LRT/MRT rail + Grab for last mile

APU's published breakdown inside the RM 1,500–3,000 per month total budget is food RM 600–1,200, transport RM 100–300 and utilities RM 50–150. Malaysia overall runs RM 1,500–2,500 per month, far below Sydney, London or Toronto.

The catch: the cheap shared rooms in Nilai or Kuching are irrelevant to you if you are studying at Bukit Jalil. Budget on the KL row.

English and entry for the IT degree

Requirement APU (bachelor level)
IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0)
Alternatives TOEFL iBT 42–79 by level Β· PTE 42–58 Β· MUET Band 2–4 Β· IGCSE/O-Level English grade C
Waiver English-medium schooling + English β‰₯70–75% β†’ test waiver common at foundation/bachelor
If below target APU English Language Programme, 7–10 weeks per level, RM 2,500–3,000 per level; Level 3 = IELTS 5.5/6.0
APU foundation entry IELTS 5.0
APU master's entry IELTS 6.0 (some 6.5)

The published bachelor minimum at APU is IELTS 5.5 with no band below 5.0. The band-floor is what actually fails people β€” a 5.5 overall with a 4.5 in writing does not meet it. The general safe-admission target across Malaysian institutions for a bachelor's is IELTS 6.0–6.5, so if you are borderline and you also want the UK dual award option, sit the test again rather than relying on a waiver.

The waiver is real at APU for English-medium schooling with English marks of 70–75% or above, but it is granted by the institution case by case. Do not cancel an IELTS booking because an agent said "APU will waive it". Get the waiver letter first.

Funds, EMGS and documents

EMGS and Immigration publish no single statutory minimum funds figure for Malaysia. What exists is a planning estimate built from published Year-1 EMGS and medical costs plus a living-cost baseline. Confirm the exact figure requested with APU and EMGS at application time.

The planning components, quoted separately and not added:

  • Bachelor (private university) tuition planning figure: RM 28,000
  • Living-cost baseline: RM 24,000
  • EMGS Year 1: RM 2,000
  • Medical: RM 275

For APU specifically, use the institution's own published figure of RM 108,500 total for the IT degree rather than the generic RM 28,000 planning line, and ask for the instalment schedule so you know what Year 1 alone requires.

Documents the Student Pass process needs: offer letter from an EMGS-approved institution; passport valid at least 12–18 months beyond the study period; attested transcripts and certificates; English proof or a waiver letter; financial proof (bank statements, fixed deposits, or a sponsor/scholarship letter) covering tuition plus living for at least one year; the eVAL issued after EMGS approval; a Single Entry Visa applied for through the official eVISA portal using the eVAL β€” this applies to Nepali nationals β€” pre-departure medical plus a mandatory post-arrival medical within 7 days of landing; health insurance for the study period, usually bundled into the EMGS quote; and passport photos to EMGS specification.

Budget 3–4 months end-to-end for Student Pass approval once the offer letter is in hand. Nepali, Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi applications tend to get more thorough document and financial verification, so start the day you accept. More destination guides are in the blog.

Common questions

Is RM 108,500 per year or for the whole IT degree?

It is the published total for the BSc (Hons) Information Technology (specialisms) at APU, and the programme runs 3 years. It is not an annual fee. Ask APU for the instalment breakdown so you know what falls due in Year 1, because that is what your financial proof has to cover.

Does the fee include accommodation and food?

No. APU publishes accommodation and living costs separately: APU residence RM 1,120–1,390 per month, and a total monthly student budget of RM 1,500–3,000 covering food RM 600–1,200, transport RM 100–300 and utilities RM 50–150. Present tuition and living costs as two separate lines to your sponsor.

Can I work part-time to cover the fees?

International students may work up to 20 hours per week during scheduled breaks and holidays only β€” not during term β€” subject to Student Pass conditions and university approval. That means part-time work cannot be your funding plan for RM 108,500. Your financial proof must show tuition plus living for at least one year regardless.

Can I stay and work in Malaysia after the IT degree?

Malaysia does not offer a broad open post-study work visa like Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Staying means an employer sponsors an Employment Pass after a job offer, and from 1 June 2026 the EP salary floors make this harder for fresh graduates because many entry-level jobs pay below the threshold. Treat APU as a cost-effective degree with a UK dual award option, not a guaranteed route to staying on.
