ATMC NZ Fees for Nepali Students: What to Verify

ATMC New Zealand fees for Nepali students — what is published, the IELTS 6.0 entry bar, Auckland vs Christchurch living costs, and what to confirm.

The short answer on ATMC NZ fees

ATMC New Zealand does not have a single published tuition figure in our institution spine. Our record lists ATMC NZ under "Pathway / verify", which means the tuition figure must be taken from the official programmes page for the exact programme, campus and intake you are applying to: https://atmc.ac.nz/programmes/.

That is not us avoiding the question. It is the honest position, and it is the one your file needs. A counsellor who quotes you a number from memory, and an offer letter that says something different, is how a Nepali student ends up short of funds at the worst possible moment. Get the fee in writing, on the offer, for your intake — then build everything else around that number.

What ATMC NZ is, and where it sits

ATMC New Zealand operates in Auckland and Christchurch. Two programmes are named in our English-requirements record:

  • Bachelor of Applied Arts (Level 7)
  • Diploma in Software Development (Level 7)

Our record also states plainly: no postgraduate programmes published. So if you are a Nepali student holding a Bachelor's degree and looking for a master's in New Zealand, ATMC NZ is not the institution to build that plan around. Look at the university options on our New Zealand hub instead, and use the free Master Reckoner to line up courses, costs and English scores side by side.

English entry requirements at ATMC NZ

This is where ATMC NZ does publish clear figures.

Level ATMC NZ requirement
Bachelor of Applied Arts (L7), Diploma in Software Development (L7) 6.0 or equivalent, no band below 5.5
Postgraduate No PG programmes published

Other tests: TOEFL and PTE Academic are accepted on application. Our record also notes that no equivalency table is published on the NZ site — meaning ATMC has not put up a chart telling you which TOEFL or PTE score matches which IELTS score. You have to submit and ask.

The band score is the part that fails people

"6.0 or equivalent, no band below 5.5" is two conditions, not one. Nepali students routinely score 6.5 in Reading and Listening and 5.0 in Writing, land on 6.0 overall, and assume they have met the bar. They have not. The 5.0 in Writing breaks the second condition. Check every band before you pay an application fee.

How ATMC's bar compares

Institution Undergraduate English requirement
ATMC NZ 6.0 or equivalent, no band below 5.5
University of Auckland 6.0, no band below 5.5
AUT 6.0, all bands 5.5+
University of Canterbury 6.0, min 5.5 in each band
SIT Bachelor (L7) 6.0, no band below 5.5
Ara Bachelor 6.0 Academic; L3 certificate 5.0
Yoobee Bachelor 6.0, no band below 5.5; Certificate/Diploma 5.5, no band below 5.0

ATMC's undergraduate bar is the standard New Zealand bar. It is not a soft entry point. If your IELTS is well short, the lowest usable published entry point in our dataset is UP Education, at 4.5 overall with no band below 4.0 for Foundation Connect and Pathways Link — but note that UP's Accelerated entrants must meet the University of Auckland's requirement, not the College's, and that UP accepts Duolingo only at 75–95 and only with a spoken interview conducted by the UP Education team.

One thing to ask ATMC directly

Some New Zealand institutions refuse online-format English tests outright, and some refuse Medium of Instruction letters. Our records show, for example, that AUT refuses IELTS Academic Online and PTE Academic Online, Toi Ohomai refuses home-based online versions of tests, Waikato College does not accept PTE Academic Online, and Ara states "We do not accept Medium of English as evidence." That Ara line matters to Nepali applicants because MOI letters from Nepali colleges are commonly submitted.

Our ATMC record does not contain a statement either way on online tests or MOI. So do not assume. Email ATMC admissions and ask, in writing, whether your specific test format is accepted before you book or submit it.

Living costs: Auckland vs Christchurch

ATMC NZ has campuses in both cities, and the cost difference between them is real. These are the monthly living-cost figures in our dataset:

City Monthly living cost Note
Auckland NZ$3,662 Highest in NZ; UoA/AUT/Massey area
Christchurch NZ$2,800 UC area; mid-range

For context, the cheapest city in our dataset is Invercargill at NZ$1,950 per month (SIT), and Dunedin sits at NZ$2,500 per month.

Auckland is the most expensive city in New Zealand on this list. Christchurch is mid-range. If your programme is offered at both ATMC campuses, that choice changes your monthly budget every single month you are there. Work out the whole-course total yourself using the fee from your offer letter and the monthly figure for your city — do not take a rounded "living cost" number from an agent's brochure.

Funds and dependants

Our Master Reckoner uses the following line items for New Zealand student applications:

Situation Visa/funds line Partner Children
Single student NZ$20,000 — —
Couple, no children NZ$20,000 NZ$7,400 —
Couple + 1 child NZ$20,000 NZ$7,400 NZ$3,200
Couple + 2 children NZ$20,000 NZ$7,400 NZ$6,400

Read those as separate line items sitting side by side. Add them up yourself against your own family situation, and check the current official requirement on the New Zealand government side before you arrange anything. Our dataset also applies a living-cost multiplier where a partner or children come with you — 1.5 for a couple, 1.7 for a couple with one child, 1.9 for a couple with two children — which is the tool's way of saying your Auckland or Christchurch monthly figure does not stay the same once family arrives.

Before you commit money

  • Get the tuition figure on the offer letter, for your programme, campus and intake. Not from a brochure, not from a counsellor's memory.
  • Ask whether the fee stated is per year or for the whole programme. These are not interchangeable and confusing them is a common, expensive error.
  • Check all four IELTS bands against 5.5, not just the overall 6.0.
  • Confirm in writing whether your test format (online versus test-centre) and any MOI letter will be accepted.
  • Decide Auckland or Christchurch with the monthly living figure in front of you.
  • Do not build a postgraduate plan around ATMC NZ — no PG programmes are published for it. Browse alternatives via our guides.

Common questions

How much does ATMC NZ cost per year for Nepali students?

We do not publish a figure, because our institution record lists ATMC NZ as "Pathway / verify" rather than a fixed annual fee. The tuition depends on which programme and intake you apply for, and the only reliable number is the one written on your offer letter. Check the official programmes page and ask admissions to confirm in writing whether the amount quoted is per year or for the full programme.

What IELTS score do I need for ATMC New Zealand?

For the Bachelor of Applied Arts (Level 7) and the Diploma in Software Development (Level 7), ATMC NZ requires 6.0 or equivalent with no band below 5.5. TOEFL and PTE Academic are accepted on application. No equivalency table is published on the New Zealand site, so confirm your TOEFL or PTE score with admissions before assuming it converts.

Is Auckland or Christchurch cheaper for an ATMC student?

Christchurch, on our figures. Auckland is listed at NZ$3,662 per month and Christchurch at NZ$2,800 per month in our cost-of-living dataset. If your programme runs at both campuses, that difference applies every month of your course, so factor it in before you accept an offer.

Does ATMC New Zealand offer master's degrees?

No postgraduate programmes are published for ATMC NZ in our records — the highest published level is the Level 7 bachelor and diploma. If you already hold a Bachelor's degree from Nepal and want a taught master's, you need to look at the New Zealand universities and institutes that publish postgraduate entry. Start with the New Zealand hub and the Master Reckoner.
